An 82-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man from Adelaide's western suburbs have been arrested amid a police investigation into attempted cocaine smuggling.

Detectives searched a home in Flinders Park on Wednesday and charged the pair with attempting to traffic a large commercial quantity of the drug.

The arrests occurred amid an investigation into the "attempted importation of eight kilograms of cocaine", police said.

Police estimated the quantity's street value at $3.2 million.

"This is another example of the unwavering determination of Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives to stop the flow of dangerous illicit drugs into South Australia," Detective Superintendent Billy Thompson said in a statement.

"This amount of cocaine, with a street value of about $3.2 million, could have caused enormous harm to our community."

The woman and man have been released on bail and are scheduled to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on April 12.

Police have urged anyone with information about the manufacture, sale or supply of illicit drugs to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
