The actions of police are in the spotlight after a 34-year-old woman was found dead inside her Sydney unit last night, almost a day after a distressed call to triple zero.
Tatiana Dokhotaru's estranged partner Danny Zayat is in custody charged with domestic violence-related offences.
Dokhotaru was found with severe head injuries and her death is being treated as suspicious.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said the triple zero call centre received a phone call from an anonymous woman on Friday night "reflecting she was being assaulted".
"Money was being requested by another person in the unit," Smith said.
However officers couldn't pinpoint which of the 297 units of a tower block in Liverpool that the call came from.
"She provided no name and the address for that phone call was a large block of units here in Liverpool," Smith said.
Almost 24 hours later, the body of Dokhotaru was found inside her Norfolk Street unit after a neighbour called police.
Zayat and a four-year-old child were also there.

It is alleged that Zayat was breaching an AVO. Police arrested him and have charged him with assault, stalking and damaging a TV.
Dokhotaru's death is being treated as suspicious and the homicide squad isn't looking at anyone else at this stage.
Smith declared a critical incident investigation to look into how long police spent looking for the woman who called triple zero and if that caller was in fact Dokhotaru.
Detectives reviewed security footage this afternoon, as officers interviewed neighbours and forensics collected potential evidence.
Zayat was refused bail at Parramatta Courthouse this afternoon.
Police aren't ruling out further charges and are waiting on the results of an autopsy.
