Man allegedly stabbed shopper, assaulted security guard over mask

A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a security guard and stabbed a shopper in a scuffle which started over a mask.

A 25-year-old man, a woman and two children were at the Windsor Riverview Shopping Centre north-west of Sydney yesterday.

The woman was asked to put on a mask by a security guard, NSW Police said.

The man is then accused of attacking the security guard, a 59-year-old man, pushing him and punching him a number of times.

A member of the public, a man aged 53, tried to intervene and the fight continued.

It is alleged the 25-year-old then stabbed the older shopper in the leg.

The customer and security guard managed to restrain the man before officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command arrived.

Officers arrested the man after a short struggle and took him to Windsor Police Station, where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence, affray, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Penrith Local Court today.
Inquiries are continuing.
