Body of elderly woman missing in floodwaters found on riverbank on NSW Mid North Coast
Evacuations in Port Macquarie and Kempsey, NSW, as record-breaking heavy rain brings flash flooding
The body of an elderly woman who went missing on the NSW Mid North Coast days before once-in-100-year floods hit the region has been found on the riverbank of a farm near Gloucester.
NSW Police have confirmed a farmer notified them at 5.15pm yesterday after making the tragic discovery on his property on Barrington West Road in Barrington.
Adele Morrison, 78, was last seen leaving her home in Port Macquarie about 6am on March 16 to travel to Gloucester.
er family reported her missing the following day and, in a NSW Police first, a geo-alert was issued to surrounding districts for a "high risk" missing person.
Investigations found she did make it to Gloucester, where she visited a shopping centre about 10.45am on the same day, but her movements after this remain unclear.
On March 25, as weather conditions in the region worsened, Ms Morrison's car was found in floodwaters at Barrington River but no one was inside.
The body has not yet been formally identified, but police say they believe it to be that of Ms Morrison.
A crime scene was established at the Barrington property and examined by specialist forensic police, but her death is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
