A devastated Gold Coast family have said their final farewells to their six-year-old boy after his life support was turned off.

The heartbreaking goodbye last Friday comes after Deklan Babington-MacDonald had been in intensive care since Anzac Day last week, following an incident with a penguin toy bought from Sea World.

Confirming the decision on Monday, a fundraiser page for the family said that Deklan died while surrounded by friends and family.

"Deklan passed away on the 30th of April, at Queensland Children's Hospital, surrounded by his closest family, extended family and some close friends of the family," the fundraiser updated said.

"Please respect the families privacy and grief at this time. Any details of a memorial will be communicated when appropriate.

"They are reading the beautiful messages of support and love and appreciate all the kindness and donations."

Doctors told Declan's family last week that the six-year-old was "beyond recovery" following the Anzac Day incident.

"Devastated doesn't begin to describe how the family is right now," cousin Lea Williams said last week following the news.

The fundraiser dedicated to supporting Deklan's family has raised over $14,000.

In a statement after the incident, Village Road Show Theme Parks said it is "distressed to learn about the tragic accident involving Deklan" and that it "needs to understand the circumstances around what has occurred".

Sea World has temporarily taken the toy in question off shelves.
