Quick-thinking driver saves boy, 3, lost on dark road

A three-year-old boy wandering down the middle of a dark, built-up Sydney street. It's a parent's worst nightmare, caught on dashcam.

Fortunately, the man behind the wheel on thinks quickly, stopping his car in time to race the little boy to safety.

"I stopped to save him," the man told 9News.

"Okay, this place is very dark and there is — two way is car, they coming fast, one behind me and another one.

"So, I  have to stop and I pick up him from the street."

Ten minutes later, the man said, worried family members arrived to find him.

The boy's brother, Michael, said the boy sneaked out as the family loaded furniture into the car in the south-west Sydney suburb of Panania on Saturday night.

"While my step mum was occupied, my baby brother, Nathan, he walked out the door and walked into the roads," he said, leaving just one message for the three-year-old's saviour.

"Thank you so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much."

It wasn't until 9News contacted the family that the boy's emotional but extremely grateful mother saw footage of the incident.

She warned other parents to keep a close eye on their little ones.
